4. Constant Change
In Wiggins’ almost six seasons with Minnesota, he had four head coaches – Flip Saunders, Sam Mitchell, Tom Thibodeau, and Ryan Saunders. With each change came different styles, systems, and front office regimes. The elder Saunders’ untimely death in October of 2015 put the Timberwolves back into a cycle of instability they are still trying to get out from.
That’s not a good environment for players to grow in and thrive, but that’s far from the only thing that held Wiggins back. Most of that has been internal.
