2. Improve Perimeter Shooting Efficiency
The Thunder have a three-point shooting percentage of 35.5 percent this season. Last season, they shot 34.8 percent with Westbrook and George in the lineup. One argument for a significant amount of time concerning the Thunder is they take too many three’s.
However, the new mold of the NBA is eliminating the mid-range jumper and trading it for a three or an in-the-paint two. Even center Steven Adams shot and made a three-point shot during the Thunder’s preseason game.
This season Danilo Gallinari is the most efficient three-point threat shooting 41.4 percent. Dennis Schroder isn’t far behind shooting 38.7 percent. OKC averages 29 three-point attempts per game this season. That’s down from the 32.6 attempts from three per game last season.
Keeping the three-point shots down, while increasing the number of makes will help the Thunder in multiple ways. One, the Thunder can attack the paint more, causing fouls and getting points at the free-throw line. Also, this opens up for a better floor-spacing opportunity with better ball movement.
