1. Backup Plan to D’Angelo Russell
It’s no secret that the Minnesota Timberwolves have repeatedly tried to acquire D’Angelo Russell from the Golden State Warriors. They recently made another attempt to get a deal done but came up short. In addition, they pursued other point guards including Aaron Holiday, too.
According to Shams Charania and Jon Krawcynski of The Athletic, the Timberwolves were ‘intensifying’ their efforts to trade for Russell after dealing away Jeff Teague.
New team president Gersson Rosas and the rest of his front office have been actively pursuing deals on a number of fronts to try to remake the roster to better fit their vision for the team moving forward, league sources told The Athletic. That includes intensifying their pursuit of Golden State Warriors guard D’Angelo Russell.
It won’t be easy to acquire Russell and it most likely wouldn’t happen at the deadline even if it did. If the Timberwolves close the door on the idea, Schroder would be a serviceable backup plan. They wouldn’t have to risk being left empty after the summer.
