3 Reasons Anthony Davis Should Sign a 1+1 Deal With the Lakers This Summer

The Los Angeles Lakers are having a tremendous season after making a blockbuster trade in the summer to acquire Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans.

There was some risk associated with trading for Davis given that he is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2020. He is expected to decline his player option but with the way the situation has worked out with the Lakers, he is fully expected to re-sign.

The type of contract Davis could sign with the Lakers is mostly what should be focused on as opposed to the recruiting efforts of other teams. There is a possibility of Davis potentially signing a 1+1 deal in free agency, meaning he would sign a one-year deal with a player option for the second season that would decline.

“I’ve heard that idea floating around, keeping him shorter term, because of LeBron’s age,’’ an NBA agent said.

Davis is putting together a high-level season with averages of 26.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.5 blocks. He has continued to prove himself as being one of the league’s top players and is now doing so in a situation that is translating to wins.
