1. Morant Is Already a Special Player
When the Memphis Grizzlies selected Ja Morant with the No. 2 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, it’s tough to say that he was expected to be this good so soon. What he’s managed to accomplish so soon is incredible.
Over the last seven games, Morant is averaging 19.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 9.0 assists with strong efficiency. His facilitation ability has been put on full display in addition to his uncanny athleticism through high flying dunks uncharacteristic for a point guard.
The ability Morant has displayed to not only get to the rim but to finish at a high level has been incredible. During this recent stretch, he has gone 33-of-45 (73.3%) on shots from less than five feet. The shooting impact of Jaren Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks has spaced the floor for Morant to capitalize.
It’s fascinating to think about the possibilities if Morant were to continue to grow as a pull-up shooter, especially from beyond the arc. With his balance of explosiveness and pace, he would become extremely difficult to check.
