2. Gallinari Doesn’t Fit Gilgeous-Alexander’s Timeline
The main centerpiece of the Thunder’s rebuilding efforts is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. At 21-years-old, he is currently averaging 20.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists playing alongside Chris Paul, so he’s not dominating the ball the whole game.
It’s important the Thunder continue to try to cultivate their roster around Gilgeous-Alexander as much as they can. The best way to accomplish that would be to surround their young franchise-centerpiece guard with talent that within a similar age threshold.
At 31-years-old, Danilo Gallinari simply doesn’t fit within the same timeline as Gilgeous-Alexander. In fact, there is a full decade that separates them in age. Using Gallinari in the trade market to acquire an asset and a trade exception would add to the Thunder’s war-chest to make major splashes.
