#5: Dallas Mavericks
If the Cleveland Cavaliers can talk themselves into Harrison Barnes, a deal with Dallas could be possible. Kevin Love would be a good fit with DeAndre Jordan, Luka Doncic, and Dennis Smith Jr. and can be the Dirk Nowitzki replacement, as he’s already reached the twilight of his career. Dallas likely wants to keep flexibility for free agency next season, which is why they signed DeAndre Jordan for one year, so taking on a long-term contract like Love might not interest them much.
If Dallas doesn’t care and are willing to forgo spending next offseason to get a very good player already locked up to a contract, then something like Harrison Barnes, Dorian Finney-Smith and a future first-rounder could be a good place to start. Like I mentioned above, this deal is highly contingent on whether the Cavs are willing to take on Harrison Barnes’ contract and the two years remaining on it. Barnes is still only 26 years old, but he is no longer worth his contract and has been slowed down by injuries the last few seasons.
Maybe the Cleveland Cavaliers see Barnes as a young veteran who can be a placeholder for their rebuild who can act as their offensive focal point until his contract expires. Maybe Barnes doesn’t play much and he helps them in their tanking efforts. I wouldn’t expect the Cavaliers to have much interest in this deal, but it is the only way a deal gets done for Dallas.
