Los Angeles Lakers: 3 Reasons Why Josh Hart Should Start

3. Consistency On The Offensive End

During the 2017-18 season, Caldwell-Pope was named the starting shooting guard. KCP played 74 games last season while dealing with legal issues. The former Detroit Piston has the ability to attack the rim, catch and shoot and play solid defense.

The five-year veteran could help any team in need of a shooting guard. However, one knock on the former Georgia Bulldog’s game is his shooting consistency. Often times the 2013 draft pick is labeled as a streaky shooter. When KCP is on fire it’s very hard to stop him or disrupt his rhythm.

On the contrary, Caldwell-Pope often times can affect the team’s offensive rhythm when he is struggling to convert shots. In 2017-18 the 25-year-old shot 38.3 percent from three. The Lakers guard attempted 5.6 threes per game which isn’t alarming. Yet, KCP has to improve on making the extra pass and not taking ill-advised shots.

Hart should start over KCP because of his ability to constantly move without the ball, set screens and make the correct basketball play. Not to mention, he can also play solid defense, handle the ball and score.

Obviously, if you are paying attention to numbers Caldwell-Pope had a better season statistically than Hart. But one thing to observe is the fact that KCP is entering his sixth year in the league. Last season he averaged 13.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

In comparison, Hart averaged 7.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game last season. As Hart enters his second season he is only averaging five points less than KCP. Hart’s style of play compliments both James and Ingram’s respective games.

Over the years King James has benefited with floor spacing and players who can create for themselves.
