2. The Magic Affect
Earlier in Beasley’s career, he struggled to stop smoking marijuana which arguably affected his level of play. The former Knick was released by the Phoenix Suns in 2013 due to his trouble with smoking. Over the years fans have criticized the former Buck for his past.
Regardless of what some may say the last few years for the crafty veteran have been pretty solid stat wise. Despite the perception attached to the 10-year veterans name playing under Magic will help in the long run.
Magic is respected around the league for his accomplishments as a player, owner and philanthropist. Often time’s players struggle to buy into a system when the coach or management lacks playing experience.
Johnson will be able to help mentor the 29-year-old on and off the court. This relationship can help the new Laker become a better professional and player. Let’s not forget that Johnson is arguably one of the best basketball minds and can help Beasley tap into his reserved talent.
Coupled with James and Johnson another person who can help the former Kansas State star improve is Lakers’ head coach Luke Walton. Some may argue that Walton is on his way out or maybe that’s just LaVar Ball. Needless to say, Walton is excellent with player development.
Walton was the assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors from 2014-16. A lot of people tend to forget that the current Lakers head coach helped develop Draymond Green. Walton helped Green develop a better offensive rhythm and knowledge of the game. Without the assistance of Walton, the three-time champion in Green may not be as dominant as he is now.
The former Golden State Warriors assistant coach can help Beasley improve on both sides of the ball and get him to buy into the system.
