Byron Scott Wants to Patch Things Up With Jason Kidd

Jason Kidd was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this past weekend and one of his former coaches wants to patch things up.

Byron Scott, who coached Kidd with the New Jersey Nets, says he’s very happy for Kidd and is hopeful the two will cross paths one day and squash their beef. Scott was fired by the Nets in the 2003-04 season after a 22-20 start and there were rumors Kidd played a big role in the dismissal of Scott.

In 2015 when Scott was coaching the Los Angeles Lakers and Kidd was coaching the Milwaukee Bucks, Scott was asked about his experience coaching Kidd. Scott responded to the question by saying, “He was kind of known as an a**hole.”

But it appears Scott has gotten over his disdain for Kidd and is ready to connect again.

“I would hope that somewhere down the line, if we do run into each other, I know myself, I’ve definitely forgotten about it,” Scott told Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson on Scoop B Radio. “It’s water under the bridge. If I do see him, I would just want to congratulate him on his career and everything he’s been able to accomplish. Hopefully, we can go from there.

“I’m happy for him. He put in all the work. Jason was a great player, unbelievable competitor. When there was a big shot to be made, as much as people would talk about how he wasn’t a great shooter, he made big shots when the game was on the line.”

Kidd and Scott guided the Nets to two straight Finals appearances in 2001 and 2002. The team lost both times, one to the Lakers and the other to the San Antonio Spurs.

In 1,391 career games with the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Nets and New York Knicks, Kidd averaged 12.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game. He was a 10-time All-Star, the 1994-95 Co-Rookie of the Year with Grant Hill, made the All-Defensive team nine times and was part of the Mavericks team which won the 2011 championship over the Miami Heat.

Kidd has recorded the second most assists in NBA history, dishing out 12,091. He has also registered the third most triple-doubles of all-time, compiling 107.

It’s unknown if Kidd wants to have a relationship with Scott again. The two men haven’t spoken in years.
