Goal 1. Lead the Pistons to the Playoffs
The Eastern Conference is completely wide open this year. Because of player movement and the massive distribution of talent to the Western Conference, wins and playoff spots are up for grabs. The Pistons narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season, finishing one spot away from the postseason in 9th place in the East.
This season, more teams are on equal footing, meaning that the Pistons could grab a few more wins on their schedule. Adding Griffin to the roster for a full season means that the Pistons could potentially be more competitive in a new East, and that should be one of their goals.
Blake Griffin may not be the same explosive player that he was years ago, but he is still one of the best players at his position, and one of the better players in the NBA. His scoring, rebounding, and passing are all assets that the Pistons will benefit from, especially if he is able to stay healthy for the entire season.
The duo of Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond is one of the more formidable frontcourt tandems in the league, and they have the potential to work very well together over the course of a full season together. As Griffin continues to play more games with the Pistons, team chemistry will improve.
That means that each player will find their role within the team, and if they can adapt to one another and truly mesh, the Pistons can find themselves back in the playoffs for the first time in years.
