Sacramento Kings: Reasonable Improvements De’Aaron Fox Can Make in 2018-19

The Sacramento Kings have high hopes for second-year point guard De’Aaron Fox. With the addition of Marvin Bagley III in the 2018 NBA Draft, Dave Joerger’s squad has the foundation in place for a dangerous offensive duo.

Despite being selected with the No. 5 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Fox struggled to produce consistently at the NBA level. Fox produced a pedestrian 11.6 points and 4.4 assists per game as a rookie. With a year under his belt, the 20-year-old guard has the tools to be a threat on both ends of the court.

Today, we will look at what Fox can do on the offensive end to boost his stock.

Pick Up the Pace

Fox is one of the fastest players in the NBA, but he was trapped inside one of the slowest offenses in the NBA last season. The Kings ranked last in the league in pace in 2017-18. Due to the lack of open-court opportunities, Fox operated primarily out of half-court sets.

The former Kentucky star shot 64.7 percent from inside the restricted area, which is a far cry from his 41.2 overall field goal percentage. If coach Dave Joerger loosens the reins on his offense, it will create more favorable looks for his hyper-athletic point guard. Along with his individual scoring numbers, it will produce easy assists for Fox.

The arrival of Bagley and the return of a healthy Harry Giles will further encourage the Kings to open up their offense. Both big men have superb athleticism. Fox will have two massive targets when Sacramento decides to push the pace.
