6. Acquiring an Addition Pick to Select Vincent Edwards

Though the Rockets had only one pick entering the draft, Daryl Morley executed a deal to add another wing player. He reached an agreement with the Utah Jazz to acquire Purdue forward Vincent Edwards.

Edwards had an impressive collegiate career, averaging 11.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He had a breakout season last year as a senior. His averages of 14.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game earned him Second-team All-Big Ten honors.

Like his draft colleague Melton, Edwards struggled in Summer League play. A 3-point specialist in college, he went only 1-for-6 from beyond the arc in his debut. Though his statistics throughout the summer were mediocre at best, he did have a breakout game against the Los Angeles Clippers scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds.

Edwards is great at spacing the floor, and it’s understandable why Morley acquired a 6’7″ 3-point specialist. His struggles in Summer League are a concern, and shooting 21.1 percent from beyond the arc isn’t going to earn him a spot on the roster. He has the potential to become a contributor in Houston but is likely to spend time in the G League developing his game.
