Brooklyn Nets: 3 Questions Following the 2018 NBA Offseason

Who Starts At Point Guard?

With the trade for D’Angelo Russell, this would seem like a clear answer here. However, with Russell missing a large chunk of the season last year, the Nets had to rely on Spencer Dinwiddie.

While Dinwiddie didn’t post Damian Lillard type numbers, he held the fort down for the Nets at their most crucial position. Heading into the 2017 season, Dinwiddie was the backup and not expected to see more than 20 minutes per contest. But with him thrown into the starting position, he did more than turn a few heads.

In 58 games as a starter, Spencer Dinwiddie averaged 13.8 points and 7.2 assists while shooting 38.8 percent from the floor. However, when Russell was starting, he averaged 14.9 points and 5.8 assists while shooting 42.6 percent from the floor. In contrast, it would seem that starting Russell would be a wise choice but Dinwiddie seems to be a bit more of a facilitator.

This is what Kenny Atkinson must figure out. Does he want a player who looks for his teammates or a player who looks for his shot first?
