Toronto Raptors: 3 Reasons Why Kawhi Leonard Should Stay Long-Term

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Leonard Is Exactly What the Raptors Needed

Even though the Raptors had a lot of success with DeRozan leading the way, Kawhi Leonard brings the exact things that the team needed. Obviously, his defense is something that the Raptors have not had in quite some time.

Back in the 2016-17 season with the Spurs when he was completely healthy, Leonard showed his full potential. He averaged 25.5 points per game to go along with 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.8 steals. Those numbers show that he is a superstar on both ends of the court.

At just 27 years old, Leonard is in his prime and will be at his best throughout the next contract he signs.

Toronto can offer him the ability to compete for a title and be the face of a franchise. They may not come with the bright lights of Los Angeles, but it would be a place that he could put down roots and have a team build around him long-term.
