Toronto Raptors: 3 Reasons Why Kawhi Leonard Should Stay Long-Term

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

The Eastern Conference Is Wide Open

First and foremost, Leonard and the Raptors will have an open Eastern Conference to work with. LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers have been the lone powerhouse for years, but that has come to an end with his decision to leave Cleveland for the second time to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

While the Raptors did trade the face of their franchise, Leonard will fill that role perfectly. He will be the star player on a team that should compete for an NBA Finals appearance. Leonard gives the Raptors a much-improved defensive presence and will still fit nicely with Kyle Lowry on the offensive end of the court.

Toronto will have to battle with division rivals in Boston and Philadelphia. They will also have to deal with two up-and-coming teams in the Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks.

Despite the fact that there are other talented teams in the conference, the Raptors will have a great chance to play for a championship each and every season.
