What Jordan Clarkson is Capable of Becoming
An Efficient Scorer– Clarkson has shown that he can shoot the three-ball along with the ability to size up defenders and take them off the dribble. He does all this while hitting 45% of his field goal attempts. Last season in total, he averaged 13.9 points on 11.8 shots per game. His inside scoring hovered right around 50.5%. If his three-point shooting doesn’t regress to what it was in LA, he can be a dangerous all-around scorer.
A Spark Plug– Offense could be hard to come by for the Cavaliers, especially while they try to adapt to having Kevin Love as the number one option. Clarkson, either as a starter or off the bench, can utilize his dribble-drive prowess to score at the rim and draw fouls. Add in his three-point shooting, and he can easily bust some games wide open, especially if defenses are keying in on Love or giving the rookie Sexton headaches.
A Facilitating Role Player– Clarkson isn’t a fantastic passer, but he’s capable. He can use that same dribble-drive ability that gets him plenty of looks at the rim to help space the floor and get open looks for wings. Assuming Rodney Hood stays, Clarkson should get him plenty of perimeter looks. The same goes for J.R. and Kyle Korver. I wouldn’t expect his 2017-18 assist numbers (3.3 per game) to skyrocket, but there’ll likely be a slight increase.
