Oklahoma City Thunder: 3 Reasons Dennis Schröder Is a Perfect Fit

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Dennis Schroder Can Play With or Behind Russell Westbrook

Whether the Thunder want their new guard to play with Russell Westbrook or as his backup, those plans have not been announced. The good thing for Oklahoma City is that Schroder will be able to play either role.

During his stint as the starting point guard in Atlanta, Schroder showed that he was more than capable of running an offense. He improved dramatically as a playmaker for his teammates. Schroder also learned how to take control of games when he needed to.

Playing with Westbrook wouldn’t be as easy for Schroder, but Westbrook is more of a shooting guard anyway. Schroder might be able to bring the ball up and create opportunities for Westbrook. He also can slash and shoot the ball well, which would come into play when the ball is in Westbrook’s hands.

Schroder and Westbrook may not end up playing a lot together, but even if Billy Donovan wants to give it a try, the two players should be able to make things work.
