Their Roster Now Has More Depth
Last season the Nets had one of the shallowest rosters in the league. The only real position they had quality depth at was the point guard. Even then, that was severely tested due to long-term injuries to Jeremy Lin and D’Angelo Russell. Allen Crabbe and Joe Harris were two of their better performers at the two spot, but outside of the backcourt spots, they were quite bare.
At the power forward is where they really lacked, with Rondae Hollis Jefferson and DeMarre Carroll playing undersized roles there for the majority of the season. According to Basketball-Reference, Carroll spent 77% of his time at the four with Rondae spending 48% of his court time at the position.
Outside of Jarrett Allen, Brooklyn had no answer at the five. Early in the season, Tyler Zeller played some valuable minutes, while Timofey Mozgov filled in very sparingly before being moved out of the rotation altogether, in favor of the up and coming former rookie.
Whenever the team suffered injuries to rotation players, their form dipped considerably. This was due to only really having seven or eight quality players that could perform to an NBA standard.
Following the moves made by Marks and his team, the Nets have enviable depth at each position. The addition of Shabazz Napier means another quality guard who can play at the one or two. Treveon Graham can play either the two or three well and has even spent time as an undersized four. Jared Dudley gives them a stretch four they sorely lacked last season and Faried and Davis provide much-needed quality in the frontcourt.
Their rotation essentially increased from eight guys to 12 capable players, 14 if rookies Dzanan Musa and Rodions Kurucs can crack the rotation.
