Become a More Efficient Free Shooter
The second area that Brown must improve on is his free throw shooting. Last season the shooting-guard shot 64.4 percent from the free throw line. Now 64.4 percent doesn’t scream intentional foul but it’s something to work on. Considering the two-year veterans level of athleticism he can get to the line at any point.
As of now the 2016 first round pick shoots 39.5 percent from three and can get to the rim at will. Despite being able to get to the rim and finish with contact the 21-year-old has struggled at the line. If Brown can increase his free throw percentage he will be able to increase his scoring average.
If Brown does not work on his free throw percentage Stevens may have to substitute him late in the game. Another option could be that teams foul him late in the game and take the risk of converting from the free throw line. At a young age, Brown has already started to establish a complete game on the offensive side of the ball.
Free throws are the difference between advancing to the next round of the playoffs or going home early. Maybe the right-handed guard should reach out to Drew Hanlen. Being able to knock down free throws will help boost the young guard’s confidence and open the rest of his game up.
