2. Phoenix Suns
This Suns roster is both intriguing and exciting. However, there is one problem. They let Elfrid Payton walk. They cut Tyler Ulis. Now the only two point guards left on the team are oft-injured Brandon Knight and newly drafted Élie Okobo.
Phoenix is going to be good and be good soon. Their super young core of Devin Booker, Josh Jackson, Deandre Ayton, T.J. Warren, Mikal Bridges, Marquese Chriss, and Dragan Bender is loaded with talent and potential. With that youth, the Phoenix brass has brought in veterans to help guide these young players and push for a playoff spot.
Trevor Ariza, Tyson Chandler, and Darrell Arthur (rumored as a buy-out candidate) are 3 guys that have been around the league for years and knows what it takes. Adding Hill to a lineup with Ariza, Ayton, and Booker would make for a serious threat.
Devin Booker will need to improve as a passer before he can be a primary ball handler on a highly successful team, but having George Hill as a backcourt partner will give him the best opportunity to grow in that department.
The Suns need as many positive defensive talents and reliable spot-up shooting threats as they can get and Hill certainly matches that description and can even provide some playmaking to go along with it.
Phoenix has some draft compensation that would make sense to offer like the 2019 first round pick from the Milwaukee Bucks. It has protections from picks 1-3 and 17-30 in 2019, then on picks 1-7 in 2020, then it ultimately is unprotected in 2021. They could also use the expiring deal of Tyson Chandler to help match salary.
