2. Gordon Is Entering His Prime
With four NBA seasons under his belt, and entering next season at 23 years old, Gordon is coming into the prime of his career. His first couple of seasons in Orlando were a struggle. He was mainly a contributor off the bench, and his averages of 7.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game were disappointing.
However, he began to hit his stride during the 2016-17 season once he became a consistent starter. As mentioned earlier, he posted career highs in every major statistical category last season, and is averaging 15.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game the last two years.
Gordon has yet to reach his full potential, and could become a superstar in the NBA. It can be argued that the myriad of coaches that have made their way through Orlando the past few seasons have stunted his development. Since his rookie season in 2014-15, he has played for three different head coaches.
It’ll be interesting to monitor his progress under newly hired coach Steve Clifford. As an assistant coach for the Magic from 2007-12, he was instrumental in transforming Dwight Howard into one of the most dominant big-men in the league. With a full offseason to work with Clifford, Gordon’s game should continue to trend upward next season.
