Portland Trail Blazers: 3 Takeaways from the 2018 NBA Offseason

Portland Will Miss Ed Davis

Following the decision to let Ed Davis walk and not pay him the contract he deserved, quite a few Blazers’ players made their unhappiness known. One of those players was the face of the franchise, Damian Lillard and fellow star C.J. McCollum.

Both players were unhappy to see him leave the Blazers for the Brooklyn Nets. Davis was not a star by any means, but he was a top-notch role player. He was also the kind of glue player that every team needs in order to compete.

During the 2017-18 NBA season with Portland, Davis ended up averaging 5.3 points and 7.4 rebound. He shot 58.2 percent from the field and was a solid defensive presence for the Trail Blazers as well.

While Davis may not look like a major impact player for the Blazers, he was a big piece of what they were doing. When two stars are upset about a player leaving, that player obviously meant something big to the team. Davis will be missed in Portland and it will be hard to replace his role.
