Derek Harper compares Luka Doncic to Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson

Derek Harper recently joined ESPN Dallas 103.3 to discuss Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic. During his appearance, he expressed that Doncic is ‘right in the same breath’ as legendary players such as Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson.

“I’ve played against Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson … Luka is right in the same breath. I know people think your crazy. He’s right there with the best players ever to play, bar none, in my opinion,” Harper said.

Doncic is having an impressive season, in general, but especially for someone that is just turning 21-years-old on Feb. 28. He is averaging 29.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 9.0 assists through 40 performances.

The production Doncic has provided the Mavericks this season has been statistically the greatest single-season results from any 20-year-old in NBA history. The foundation he has established for his career could very well lead him down a path to being an all-time great talent.

Perhaps most intriguing of all regarding Doncic is that there is still plenty of room for him to improve despite being a contender for the MVP award. Already putting up such strong production despite still being able to grow portrays an intriguing level of potential for the Mavericks star.

The Mavericks head into their matchup with the Utah Jazz with a 28-16 record and rank 5th in the Western Conference standings. They have overachieved mostly at the hands of Luka Doncic taking a leap forward towards elite status.

A win over the Jazz would be very impressive for the Mavericks considering how hot Utah has been lately. They have won 18 of their last 20 games and trail only the Los Angeles Lakers in the standings.
